Yıldız Secondary School News: Celebration Week
Every year, our school organises a Celebration Week in May. This year, the week is full of events again.
- Monday: The school football team plays a match against Gül Secondary School in the school garden.
- Tuesday: The drama club performs a short play about friendship on the stage of the conference hall.
- Wednesday: Our talented musicians give a classical music concert.
- Thursday: There is a basketball competition for all classes.
- Friday: The school choir sings folk songs, and the drama club acts out a funny scene for the parents.
Right now, the drama club students are making their costumes and decorating the stage.
There is also a new environment project. Twenty volunteers are going to plant trees in the school garden on Saturday morning. Our science teacher, Mr Kaya, says, "Trees give us clean air and shade. We must protect our environment and care for it responsibly."

Two students write about Republic Day at their schools.
Elif (İzmir): On 29 October, our school celebrated Republic Day with a big ceremony in the school garden. We sang the National Anthem together, and the music club performed marches. I recited a poem on the stage. My hands were shaking before I went on the stage, but everybody clapped at the end! After the ceremony, the volunteering club collected litter from the beach near our school.
Can (Erzurum): We celebrated Republic Day in the sports hall because it was rainy and cold outside. We sang the National Anthem, and the drama club performed a short play about the first years of the Republic. I was the narrator, so I practised my lines for two weeks. After the celebration, our class planted young trees in the school garden. It was very cold, but we wore gloves and finished the job.
